I also have Essential German Grammar, and that is very helpful for me as I learn German. It gives you a lot of examples. This is by no means a complete comprehensive grammar book, but if you want to get a feel of Portuguese grammar, and you don't have a lot of time to study, then this is a good book. It explains a lot of grammar, and is especially helpful if you don't have a lot of time to study every aspect of grammar.
Use this book often. Very helpful when you know portugese or english word to find word in other language.
Same problem with most books in most languages, it seems. It is good as a basic reference for beginners, but is inadequate for anyone who wants the finer points. Some older books are better. What can I say. The book covers the basics well.
it is too biased towards Peninsular Portuguese. there is a but. With a better balance between Peninsular and Brazilian Portuguese, it would have earned five stars from me. This is a good essential grammar, concise, to the point, useful information. But.
It does what it professes and I highly recommend it. I consider this an excellent first time grammar for learning Portuguese.
